The Pilgrim Band

God has done many things for you when you sincerely prayed a sinner's prayer of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We shall present a few of these great works of God in this section. Let us also look at what we need to do for God.

The definition of a true Christian is one who can point to a time and place in their past when they were confronted with the facts of the Gospel message and changed their mind and attitude toward God and their own sin, and believed on the Saviour to begin a right relationship with their maker. Thereafter, the work of sanctification comes into daily action as the Holy Spirit asks us to choose those things that please God.
 
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that
YE MAY KNOW that ye have eternal life".

 
It is a good idea to write down the day of your salvation - keep a journal of special events in your new life.
If you can't remember the exact day, then write down the approximate month of your spiritual birthday.

* God Loves You

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name."

"God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him."

 

"Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us..."

* God Accepts You

"According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love... To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us ACCEPTED in the Beloved."

 

* God Has A Plan For Your New Life

"For we are His workmanship (masterpiece) created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

"Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

"Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.... How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!  How great is the sum of them!"

 

THE BIG PICTURE in the Christian life is that God wants to use you as a witness for Him to tell the good news of the bible's way of salvation for sinners. You can worship, fellowship and pray in Heaven, but you cannot witness in Heaven: God has saved you to do that in this life only!  All of the activities mentioned below are the means to this one end. God has a special plan for your special life - seek it out and live it out in the day of your opportunity!

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father which gave them me is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."

"And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

"Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them."

"... And such were some of you: but ye are washed (by the blood) but ye are sanctified (made holy) but ye are justified (made right with God) in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God... Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Adoration  (worship and praise the Lord)

Confession (confess daily shortcomings to the Lord and seek to change)

"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

"Study (what is in the bible) to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth." "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine (teaching) for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

The Authorised King James Holy Bible is the Pure Word of God for you today. (Psalm 12: 6, 7) It comes from the texts that God inspired and promised to preserve for all generations. (The source texts are commonly called the 'Textus Receptus').

 "Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee."

"The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?  And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on Him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did."

For further help to find and join yourself to a good church, look up your yellow pages or your local newspaper for a good church in your area. I will make a suggestion based upon an educated deduction, having travelled extensively and surveyed the churches in the country, that the best churches and the ones truest to the New Testament model are the Bible Baptist churches and the Bible churches and the Gospel Halls (open brethren). Don't just stay in a familiar church - it might be teaching wrong teaching! 
Look for a church that teaches as accurately from the Authorised Holy Bible as possible: this is most important for you and your loved ones. Right teaching leads to right living!

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."   "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighteth in his way."

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."

 

Whatever your chosen career is or will be, may you say with the Lord Jesus, "My meat (fulfillment) is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work"  and at the end of your life, say to the Father in Heaven, "I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do".

* The Devil

The fallen angel, called Satan, has become your number one enemy. He will try to make you doubt your salvation; cause you to forget to pray; keep you from learning the bible, and cause many other sins to enter your daily life and spoil your walk and witness.

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; whom resist steadfast in the faith..."

"God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you..."

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer (allow) you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

"Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles (tricks) of the Devil."

 

* The World (society's anti-god values and philosophies)
 

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever."

 

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments (principles) of the world, and not after Christ... And ye are complete in Him."

"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know (esteem) a wicked person."

* The Flesh - Self Nature in Us

"For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption (deterioration); but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

"Mortify therefore your members (put fleshly desires to death) which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry... But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.  Lie not one to another, seeing ye have put off the old man (fleshly nature) with his deeds; and have put on the new man (spiritual nature) which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created  him."

 

* False Teachers

"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

"But I suffer (allow) not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.... That in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared..."

"So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine (teachings) of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.... Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest (allow) that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants..."

 

This is why is it very important for you to read the Authorised Holy Bible to learn the Truth, and to know when error confronts you. God makes it very clear that you are to depart from error and bad associations. Do not go to a church just because it is familiar to you (e.g. traditional/family church). Go to a church that teaches as accurately from the Bible as possible and places preaching as a top priority. Avoid a church that seeks to entertain, tell nice 'feel good' stories and has a worldly music and youth program.
Go to a bible based church and support it - it's a rare find.

 

* By Living a Godly Life

"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal; the Lord knoweth them that are His. And let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity... Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart."

 

* By Following Good Works

"Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work."

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven."

"In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works... Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works... That they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works."

 

* By Supporting a Good Church

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

"Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; and to esteem them very highly in love for their works sake."

 

* By Prayer and Fasting

"And there was one, Anna... And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day... And spake of Him to all them that looked for redemption (deliverance) in Jerusalem."

"And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: and I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession... We have sinned, and have committed iniquity... even by departing from thy precepts..."

* By Writing Letters

(Luke 1:1-4)

As a further step to preserve righteousness in this nation and to speak up for God's cause, we can be involved in writing and sending letters to our Ministers of Parliament, City Councils and to places of disrepute in our region. In these letters we give sensible reasoning backed up by God's authoritative Words, with statistics and/or a newspaper article high-lighting the social evil at hand.

 

We begin the letter with a clear introduction to who we are and the subject of the letter, and what is the authority that we speak from, and then we move on to the body of the letter with good sound reasoning for the removal of the proposed policy or place of disrepute in our region.

Then we close the letter with a polite but firm request for the reader to disassociate from the problem policy or place and to support those policies that will promote righteousness in our country. We also include a clear Gospel presentation and invitation to salvation for the reader, and we sign our name and provide a reply address.

 

* By Puritan Street Witness

This is a Christian's living heritage - open air witness, which involves old time preaching, gospel singing, testimonies and the giving away of gospel tracts.

The beginner can start by placing gospel tracts in letterboxes and in places around their town. Then one can progress to the next level of giving out tracts on a busy main street to passers-by. Then one can add to that when confident according to ones talent: -

You may be a good singer - so sing gospel songs that have a clear gospel message.

You may be an artist - so draw gospel pictures and words on a 'white board'.

You may be a budding preacher - so preach to people who don't go to church.

 

It is a fact of history that open-air outreach has always preceded and accompanied revivals. New Zealand needs more puritan open air witness. The Idea is to communicate the Gospel to the people on the street, so as to give folks an opportunity to hear, believe and receive the Truth.
